All of us here at Inspiral Cycles are really excited by Tannus Armour! We often debate the pros and cons of tubeless tyres – while we all appreciate the benefits of running tyres at lower pressures and having a puncture-sealing fluid inside, the faff of tubeless setup and the need to constantly refresh the tubeless sealant has left our staff split 50/50 between tubed and tubeless. Armour is a tyre insert for 26” tyres with a width of between 1.6-1.9”. Sitting between the tyre and inner tube, it has a layer of foam up to 15mm thick next to the contact surface, with a thinner 2mm layer continuing all the way round to the rim. The thick layer is incredibly good at stopping punctures, as it’s so thick that almost nothing can get through! The thin layer protects against sidewall impacts from sharp rocks and other annoyances, and the two layers work together to prevent pinch-flats if you do bottom-out the tyre.
Tannus Armour also dampens vibrations, making your ride more comfortable regardless of the terrain. The increased sidewall support and pinch-flat protection that it provides allow you to run lower pressures, increasing comfort on bumpy terrain and greatly increasing grip, especially in wet conditions.
